Paladin Builds - Updated For 5.2
PaladinBuilds.com is a site that lists different talent builds for paladins, information on how to play your paladin, rotation information and more. Finding the right paladin spec that has been tested and works can save you a lot of time and gold. Many of these paladin builds and information come from sites such as elitistjerks, wowwiki, emailed to me from experienced players and from forums. I hope you find the following builds and information on this site useful.
News:Mists of Pandaria has been released and with the expansion the talent system has completely changed. The new talent system has 6 tiers of talents, the first is unlocked at level 15 and a new tier is unlocked every 15 levels. You can choose one talent from each unlocked tier.
With the release of the expansion there have been many other changes: Glyph system change - Primary Glyphs removed. Game graphics Upgrade Pet battle system - Gotta catch-em all. New areas, raids and dungeons. Fury bouncy Pandarians running around. The heroic monk class has been released.
Other News:Patch 5.2 has been released: -Avenging Wrath now has a cooldown of 2 minutes for Retribution Paladins (was 3 minutes). The cooldown remains unchanged for Holy and Protection Paladins. -Light's Hammer now also applies a 50% snare for 2 seconds to targets that take damage from the area of effect. -Hand of Purity now reduces all incoming damage by 10% in addition to its other effects. -Eternal Flame periodic heal now provides 100% more healing when self-cast. -Judgment now costs 5% of base mana. -Repentance now has a cast time of 1.7 seconds (was 1.5 seconds). -Sacred Shield absorb effect can now be dispelled. -Selfless Healer now boosts Flash of Light by 20/40/60% (was 33/66/100%). -Glyph of Blessed Life no longer requires Seal of Insight to be active. -Glyph of Templar's Verdict can also activate from Exorcism. Holy Paladin Builds (updated for 5.2)
Holy Paladins have a lot of choices of how they can setup their builds and make extremely good healers. Holy Paladins also make good raid and tank healers.
Holy Paladin Build
- Raid build for healing as of patch 5.2. Don't forget to change your talents to take advantage of encounter mechanics.
Stat Priorities for Holy Paladins:
Intellect > Spirit > Haste = Mastery > Crit
Protection Paladin Builds (updated for 5.2)
The protection tree is the tanking tree for paladins. A lot of the changes have been made with the release of Mists of Pandaria.
Raid Protection Paladin Single Tank Spec
- This is a good spec for doing raids.
Single Target Rotation Priority:
Crusader Strike - Use on cooldown.
Judgment - Use on cooldown.
Avenger's Shield - Use when there is a Grand Crusader proc.
Hammer of the Righteous - Use to cast and refresh Weakened Blows.
Avenger's Shield - Without GC proc.
Hammer of Wrath - Use on cooldown if target is below 20% health.
Consecration - Depending on mana status, remember you need to have enough to keep casting above spells for the encounter.
Holy Wrath - Depending on mana status.
AOE Tanking Priority:
Hammer of the Righteous- Use on cooldown.
Judgment - Use on cooldown.
Avenger's Shield - Use when there is a Grand Crusader proc.
Hammer of the Righteous - Use to cast and refresh Weakened Blows.
Consecration - Depending on mana status, remember you need to have enough to keep casting above spells for the encounter.
Avenger's Shield - Without GC proc.
Hammer of Wrath - Use on cooldown if target is below 20% health.
Holy Wrath - Depending on mana status.
With tank gear you have to weigh both threat with survivability but remember if you can't live neither can your party
Reforging And Stat Priority:
There are 2 ways you can gear as a Paly tank. First you need some stamina as a tank so that you can take a few hits without dieing but this is a stat you do not need to focus on beyond this. You just need to be able to take X damage without dieing so that a healer can fix you out before your next hit.
Next you will want to gear for either Avoidance or for Mitigation. Avoidance allows you to completely miss taking damage from attacks but when you will get larger damage spikes. Mitigation allows for damage reduction and damage smoothing. Usually when you gear up for mitigation you will take more damage than if you geared for avoidance but the damage you take is reduced and smoothed so your healers hopefully will be able to deal with continual healing needed. It is not recommended that you gear for both Avoidance and Mitigation as both methods get better with every point invested in them, if you spread your points out you will not see the benefits of focusing on one method:
To gear for Mitigation:
Hit (to 7.5% cap) = Mastery > Haste > Expertise (to 7.5% cap)
To gear for Avoidance:
Strength > Parry = Dodge
For more information on stats see Elitistjerks.
